Mekong River Commission urges more data sharing

China and several countries in Southeast Asia have been pushed by the Mekong River Commission (MRC) to share more data on hydropower operations. MRC claims these operations lead to abnormal rises and falls in water levels on the Mekong delta, a vital waterway on which tens of millions depend for their livelihoods. Lately, changing water levels have affected navigation, river ecosystems, and riverbank stability. By sharing more data, the management of the river basin could greatly improve.
