X-Road is a software initiative by the Nordic Institute for Interoperability Solutions (NIIS), that provides a solution for governmental digital interoperability. It integrates information from several distinct systems, and offers a wide array of digital services for public and private organisations whilst guaranteeing secure data exchange. This is ensured by features like encryption, digital signatures, and authentication. Initially Xacbé will be used to merge information from police-related systems but ultimately, it will become the core mechanism of digital governance of the Quintana Roo state.
Due to the open-source nature of the solution, X-Road can be implemented in any country. Mexico is now the fourth country to make use of it, together with Finland, Iceland, the Faroe Islands, and Japan.
