In a recent interview with Jagran New Media, Charlie Beckett, the founding director of the London School of Economics project: POLIS, shares his thoughts on the role of artificial intelligence in combatting fake news.
In journalism, fact checking is essential and AI systems can definitely aid this process. However, blindly trusting algorithms does not seem like a realistic avenue. Charlie states that, although robots can do a decent job at fact checking, human supervision is still required, especially for the more nuanced cases. In order to teach an artificial intelligence to detect misinformation, we need to know how to define it in the first place.
