B2B industrial platforms are becoming irreplaceable in the data economy

Business-to-business (B2B) industrial digital platforms are becoming an irreplaceable component of the data economy and a key driver for innovation. B2B platforms enable the exchange and connection of data between different organisations by providing a shared infrastructure and common governance rules.

Over the next 10 years, digital platforms could unlock €9 trillion of value for businesses and society at large. The manufacturing sector will be the biggest consumer of this technology, followed by construction, transportation, and utilities. The B2B digital platforms space is dominated by companies in IT, though it also includes industry, telecom, and cloud hyperscalers.

Currently, data sharing between businesses has not yet taken off at a large scale. Creating awareness could inspire companies to adopt more data sharing policies which foster the development of new products and services.
