On 16 March 2021, the EU funded project “Digital Innovation Hubs Federation for Large Scale adoption of digital technologies by European small- and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs)” (DigiFed) announced its third call for applications. In this call, they offer grants of up to €50 000 to start-ups, SMEs or mid-capitalisation companies for the development of smart applications in Europe. This injection of capital can be combined with DigiFed’s cutting-edge technical and business support.
DigiFed operates within the framework of the Smart Anything Everywhere Initiative, which aims to ensure that any industry in Europe – big or small, in any country or industry – can fully benefit from digital innovations to upgrade its products, improve its processes and adapt its business models to the digital age.
The project’s newest initiative will help applicants implement business plans for the sustainability of the federation of Digital Innovation Hubs designated by the European Commission. Moreover, key support mechanisms for both individual companies and groups of SMEs are offered to foster the introduction of digital technologies in their product-and-service offerings.
The third open call presents three types of Application Experiments (AEs) – DigiFed’s approach to support SMEs and mid-capitalisation companies with different levels of digital maturity. These AEs are:
- Single AE: involves one European SME and one DigiFed Technical partner which provides support and expertise.
- Twin AE: involves two European SMEs that are legally based in two different countries (cross-border) with complementary expertise.
- Twin AE with one low-digitalized company: involves two SMEs cooperating cross-border, of which at least one with a low digital maturity level. In this configuration, Twin applicants can optionally request additional support of a DigiFed Technical partner.
